2005 GB - MS2554 - Selection of London for 2012 Olympic Games

  • No 32 - Issued 05 Aug 2005 - MS 2554

    Unmounted Mint

London last held this prestigious games ceremony in 1948. This year we have beaten eight other cities from all over the world in the bid for the Games. Finally, after two years of deliberation the IOC chose London to hold the 30th Games. The UK are one of only five countries to have competed every year. Australia, France, Greece and Switzerland are the other countries to share that distinction.

The purpose-built athletics stadium will stand in east London on a 500 acre site in Stratford just seven minutes from central London.
