Written and curated by esteemed IWM historian Matthew Brosnan, this tastefully illustrated book forms a detailed timeline of events that happened in 1916. It picks up from previous books and highlights carefully selected, rarely seen images and items from the IWM archives. Taking pride of place in the centre of the book is a haunting gatefold image of the ruined village of Beaumount Hamel in November 1916, after the conclusion of the Battle of the Somme.
