This miniature sheet was originally sold at £1.35, the premium being used for the 'Stamp World London 90' International Stamp Exhibition.

Edward Lear was born on 12 May 1812, the twentieth of 21 children. He was Queen Victoria's drawing master, and Ruskin, in his list of one hundred contemporary titles, put Lear's 'Book of Nonsense' at the top. He died at San Remo on 30 January 1888.
