Omnibus Issues

This category is for specific Commonwealth Collections, known as "Omnibus Editions", that span many countries and make more sense to centralise in one place. In most cases they are all of similar design although exceptions do exist to this trend.

Examples of issues that could be registered here include:
  • 1935 - King George V Silver Jubilee
  • 1937 - King George VI Coronation
    • I believe there are 202 stamps to complete the omnibus issued to celebrate Coronation of George VI.
  • 1948 - King George VI Silver Wedding
    • 138 stamps were issued by various Commonwealth countries to celebrate this Wedding Anniversary. Some of these sets are quite rare and certainly pricey.
  • 1949 - Universal Postal Union (UPU) 75th Anniversary
    • As of 1st August 2009 there were 191 member countries in the UPU. However in 1949 there were many fewer worldwide and this Omnibus is only relevant to Commonwealth countries which I believe is 29 countries.
  • 1953 - Queen Elizabeth II Coronation
  • 1977 - Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee
  • 1978 - Queen Elizabeth II 25 Years since the Coronation
    • The commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Queen's Coronation in 1978 was marked by 20 Commonwealth countries using a similar format. In each case the heraldic beasts on the left and right stamps were different and relevant to the issuing country.
    • Many other countries also released stamps for this event, but they are outside the scope of this section and can be found within the issuing country list.
    • Section I: Although only 20 countries produced stamps in this same format - there are 21 to collect as New Caledonia produced a version in both English and French.
    • Section II: The rest of the countries that issued stamps and booklets of a different format to celebrate the same occasion.
  • 1981 - Wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana
    • The commemoration of the Wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana in 1981 was marked by 22 Commonwealth countries using a similar format, although many of the designs are different.
    • Many other countries also released stamps for this event, but they are outside the scope of this section and can be found within the issuing country list.
    • Section I: Although 22 countries produced stamps in this same format - there are 23 to collect as Lesotho produced an Imperforate set in as well.
    • Section II: The rest of the countries that issued stamps and booklets of a different format to celebrate the same occasion.
